Fat transfer surgery has grown immensely in popularity in the last few years. You might have heard of it by its other common names, fat grafting or fat injections. As an alternative to augmentation or fillers, fat can very often be used. In cases when a traditional filler would be utilized to correct wrinkles, fat could be used instead. Basically, fat is removed (using liposuction) from an area of the body where you have extra fat. It’s then, transferred to and injected into the area needing a filler. This allows for both a decrease in excess fat and the filling of wrinkles and creases. The benefits of this are not only the fact that you removed unwanted fat …but, because fat was used instead of traditional fillers, there aren’t any ongoing maintenance treatments. Procedures like breast augmentation and buttock augmentation can also be completed using this method. Essentially, you can “transfer” fat from an undesirable area to the area you wish to augment. Imagine transferring your unwanted belly fat to your breasts instead …this can be done! Obviously, a breast or buttock augmentation performed in this manner will take a bit longer than a standard augmentation using implants. But, the end result is permanent, natural and obviously you also remove unwanted fat at the same time.
