Fat transfer surgery has grown dramatically in popularity in recent years. You may have heard of it by its other common names, fat grafting or fat injections. When patients are considering fillers or implants for augmentation, fat can be used as an alternative. In cases when a traditional filler would be used to correct creases, fat could be used instead. Essentially, fat is removed (using liposuction) from an area of the body where you have extra fat. It’s then, transferred to and injected into the area requiring a filler. This allows for both a decrease in unwanted fat and the filling of wrinkles and creases. By utilizing fat instead of a traditional filler, you can achieve the desired result without the need for ongoing maintenance treatments that are needed with filler products. Fat transfers also offer a much more natural alternative to implants for augmenting parts of the body. This includes common areas like breasts and buttocks. The procedure itself takes a bit longer to complete but the outcome is permanent and natural.
