Fat transfer surgery has grown immensely in popularity in the last few years. You might have heard of it by its other common names, fat grafting or fat injections. When patients are considering fillers or implants for augmentation, fat can be used as an alternative. In cases when a traditional filler would be used to correct creases, fat could be transferred instead. Essentially, fat is removed (using liposuction) from an area of the body where you have unwanted fat. It is then, transferred to and injected into the area needing a filler. This allows for both a decrease in unwanted fat and the filling of wrinkles. By using fat instead of a traditional filler, you can achieve the desired result without the need for follow-up maintenance treatments that are required with filler products. Fat transfers also offer a much more natural alternative to implants for augmenting parts of the body. This includes common areas like breasts and buttocks. Obviously, a breast or buttock augmentation performed in this manner will take a bit longer than a traditional augmentation using implants. But, the result is permanent, natural and obviously you also remove excess fat at the same time.
