Fat transfer surgery has grown immensely in popularity in recent years. You might have heard of this procedure by its other popular names, fat grafting or fat injections. Many times where fillers or traditional augmentation would be used, fat can actually be used instead. In the event you are thinking about a filler to correct facial creases and you also have areas of your body with unwanted fat. This fat can be “transferred” from the undesirable area to the area needing a filler. This is done by removing the fat using lipsosuction and injecting it in the area being filled. Basically, the fat is “transferred”, hence the name. By utilizing fat instead of a traditional filler, you can get the desired result without the need for follow-up maintenance treatments that are required with filler products. Augmenting body parts, traditionally done using implants, can also be achieved using fat transfer. Essentially, excess fat (often from the midsection or leg areas) is removed and transferred to a more desirable location. This is commonly done for breast or buttock augmentation. Obviously, a breast or buttock augmentation completed in this way will take a bit longer than a traditional augmentation using implants. But, the result is permanent, natural and obviously you also remove unwanted fat simultaneously.
