Fat transfer, often times called “fat grafting” or “fat injections”, is a very popular cosmetic surgery procedure. When patients are considering fillers or implants for augmentation, fat can be offered as an alternative. In cases when a traditional filler would be used to correct wrinkles, fat could be transferred instead. Essentially, fat is removed (using liposuction) from an area of the body where you have excess fat. It is then, transferred to and injected into the area requiring a filler. This allows for both a decrease in excess fat and the filling of wrinkles. The benefits of this are not only the fact that you removed unwanted fat …but, because fat was utilized instead of traditional fillers, there aren’t any ongoing maintenance treatments. Fat transfers also offer a much more natural alternative to implants for augmenting parts of the body. This includes common areas like breasts and buttocks. Because of the permanent and natural result of fat transfer, it has increased in popularity over the years. It does take longer than standard implants or fillers, but it essentially kills two birds with one stone. Removal of extra fat and increased breast size.
